Ezekiel has the enclosed the copy of Markham's letter that Joseph requested. This letter was written by Markham to Morris Rosenfeld on May 7, 1919. It tells of Markham lecturing in New England and in the Middle West. Markham thanks Morris for translating his Man with the Hoe poem into Yiddish. He praises Morris for his work.

Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901).
